The exhibition Au-delà de l’image is the beginning of a reflection on the photographic medium and its possible variations in the art field.
Historically, contemporary artists used photography as a tool to document artistic actions; how can it now become the building material, the structural component of those same actions? The artist taking part in this exhibition were invited to formulate their point of view, questioning the photographic medium from various angles: in its shape, beyond its unilateral and bi-dimensional construction, towards the idea of taking hold of space, would it be a filter, a barrier, a bond, light, sculpture or installation; in the story the image conveys, beyond its end and its beginning, towards a temporality beyond the shooting’s “decisive moment”; in its production method, whether rooted in the past or projected towards the future.
The group show questions the artists’ investigative approach, without asking them to build on a common story. The stories coming out of these photographic articulations, built on the common ground of the art practice, are those the artists want to tell us, letting differences and similarities emerge as much in the attitudes as in the choices of the subjects they submit.
